The US Government pulls in about $3.6T in tax revenue and spend about $700B of that on the military. It’s about 20%. Imagine taking 20% of your paycheck and buying guns with it.
I’m not a general, I’ve never fought a war but I do know that $700B is a lot of money.
Do we need it? I don’t think so. We have nukes. We’re not going to invade any country for their land so why do we need such a large standing army? About 1.4M personnel. That’s kind of crazy too, 0.33% of our population gets 20% of our tax revenue. Sure, money goes to buying bombs and stuff but it all ends up in their hands.
As with a lot of things, we need to do better.
